DC Chairs District Interfaith Harmony Committee Meeting Ahead of Christmas

Punjab government directs special facilities, Christmas bazaars and foolproof security for Christian community

A meeting of the District Interfaith Harmony Committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar. District Police Officer Hassan Javed also attended the meeting. Assistant Commissioners Haris Hamid Khan and Nadeem Arshad, heads of various district departments, and committee members Syed Saqlain Zaidi, Tanveer Ahmed Khan, Bakhto Ram, Mirza Ram, Mushtaq Sandhu, Nazir Sohan, Munawar Gul, Sardar Masih, Pastor Haroon Emmanuel, Yousaf Masih, Khalid Masih, Eric Victor and others were present.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali Dogar said that the Christian community consists of patriotic Pakistanis and is an integral part of the country. He assured that, in line with the directives of the Punjab government, all possible facilities and foolproof security arrangements would be provided to further enhance the community’s festive celebrations.

The Deputy Commissioner announced that Christmas bazaars would be set up in all three tehsils from December 22, where essential commodities would be made available at subsidized rates. He also directed that cleanliness of churches, water sprinkling, proper lighting and the application of lime lines be ensured on a daily basis.

Speaking on the occasion, District Police Officer Hassan Javed stated that a comprehensive security plan for Christmas had been finalized and duties had been assigned to officers and personnel accordingly.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner, the DPO and members of the committee cut a Christmas cake and offered prayers for national security and harmony.
